The CDA Public Policy Team Needs You
Dear Fellow CDA Members:
We would like to share with you the exciting vision of the Colorado Dietetic Association leadership and public policy team. The CDA Public Policy co-chairs, Jessica Crandall and Athena Towns, have been putting in endless hours over the past few weeks to develop and submit the initial documentation needed to pursue licensure for Colorado dietitians and DTRs. We are convinced that this is the year to pass this crucial legislation which will protect our profession in Colorado.
If you do not already know, Colorado is one of only three states that do not have licensure or certification for their dietitians and DTRs. Additionally, we were nearly blind-sided by a bill last year from the 80 or so naturopaths in Colorado that would have essentially made it illegal for RDs and DTRs to practice nutrition! Crazy, we know!
Licensure would have protected us had this bill gone through — luckily, it did not. Point being, this is the time... this is the year... to get behind CDA and the Public Policy Team and give a huge push on behalf of every RD/DTR in Colorado. Here's what you can do:
- Send an email to Jessica () to become an active part of the Public Policy Team (PPT) and to get on the PPT mailing list. Let her know specifically if you have an interest in helping with licensure issues.
- Show your support by telling other RD/DTRs how important the passage of this legislation is for Colorado dietetic professionals this year.
- Get to know your State Legislators. If you do not know who they are, visit www.leg.state.co.us and go to the directory.
Thank you all for your consideration of this important priority of the Colorado Dietetic Association in the 2007-2008 membership year!
