Are saturated fats part of a healthy diet? In the past, fats were demonized as part of a low fat diet, while later accepted as part of the low carb craze. In the past few years, there has been a shift towards the use of plant and fish oils. Furthermore, there is a growing interest among consumers in “natural fats” including coconut oil and butter. This presentation will examine the role of fats in the diet, focusing on fatty acid composition, and the health implications of different fatty acids, including the latest research on saturated fats, heart health and the current recommendations for fat intake.
